Procedures

Depending on your destination, it is essential to carry the necessary documents (identity card, passport, visa), without which you may be denied boarding, as well as entry into the country you are travelling to.
For international flights:

European Union: present a valid national identity card or passport.

Other countries: carry a valid passport, and possibly a visa depending on the destination country. Check with your travel agency or the relevant airline.
Check the expiry date of your identity card and passport:
Since 1 January 2014, the period of validity of the French national identity card has been extended from 10 to 15 years for adults, with no action required on your part.
If your identity card was issued between 2 January 2004 and 31 December 2013 while you were an adult, the 5-year extension is automatic.
To check whether this validity extension applies to you, consult the government website.
PLEASE NOTE: this does not apply to people who were minors when the identity card was issued. They must therefore have it renewed.
