UM service
Children travelling alone can be looked after by their airline through the UM (Unaccompanied Minor) service. The minimum age allowed to travel alone depends on each airline’s own rules.
We invite you to check your airline’s conditions of carriage directly before booking.
Essential documents
Several documents are required to allow an unaccompanied minor to travel:
- the plane ticket or electronic booking;
- a valid identity card or passport in the child’s name;
- parental authorisation;
- the identification form of the person responsible for collecting the child on arrival;
- the exit authorisation (AST) for international travel.
UM service boarding procedure:
The accompaniment service for unaccompanied minors must be requested when booking and approved by the airline.
On the day of departure, the child is taken to the airport by a legal guardian or an authorised person. After check-in, they are taken into the care of the airline staff, who accompany them until they reach their destination.
At check-in, all the required documents are gathered in a UM wallet provided by the airline. The accompanying adult is asked to remain at the airport until the aircraft has actually taken off.
On arrival, the child is taken into the care of the airline staff and then handed over solely to the person designated at the time of booking. That person must present valid identification to collect the child.
